Arrest made in arson of Greenville church

GREENVILLE, MISS– Officials with the Greenville Police Department arrested Andrew McClinton Wednesday in connection with the November 1, 2016 fire at Hopewell MB Church in Greenville. McClinton, 45, has been charged with one count of first degree arson of a place of worship. McClinton, of 3836 Highway 82 West, Leland, is being held in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance in Greenville Municipal Court.

The investigation was conducted by the Greenville Police Department, Greenville Fire Department, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, State Fire Marshall’s Office, and ATF.

Governor Bryant congratulated the authorities through a statement on Facebook.

“I appreciate the hard work, professionalism and diligence of the Greenville police and fire departments, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the ATF in solving this heinous crime against people of faith,” said Governor Bryant.

The investigation is continuing.
