Attorney General comments on approved budget

AG Jim Hood helped to draft the bill

On Monday legislators met at the Capitol to hold a special session and discuss, among other things, a budget for the Attorney General’s office.

The final appropriation for the AG’s budget was over $28 million, taking a cut of roughly $5 million.

Attorney General Jim Hood had this to say about the decision:

“I am glad to have a budget, but it is sad to watch two or three people in the Republican leadership cut help to injured law enforcement and fire fighters and victims in order to give the money away to large out-of-state corporations in tax breaks. This corporate tax cut scheme has failed time and again, most recently in Kansas and Louisiana. Governor Brownback has lead Kansas off a cliff with this scheme. It haunts me to watch this in slow motion where our mentally ill are kept in jail at the county’s expense, our victims and law enforcement are abandoned, our roads get worse, and our kids and elderly get short-changed.”
