Baptist Health Systems Takes Over Kosciusko Hospital

Report from Breck Riley, Breezynews.com

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–At 12:01 Monday morning, Mississippi Baptist Health Systems officially took over operations of Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. Baptist has made deals to operate or take over several other failing hospitals over the past several years, including hospitals in Carthage and Yazoo City.

The move came after several months of negotiations between the Attala County Board of Supervisors and Baptist. After deliberating for much of 2014 and early 2015, the two sides came to an agreement on April 9.

During Monday’s meeting of the board of supervisors, county attorney Scott Pickle said that the final paper work was expected to pass around 11:00 a,m, Monday.

All current hospital staff members will keep their jobs at the hospital, which will now be called Baptist Medical Center Attala.

Chancery Clerk Gerry Taylor said that the new sign for the facility is expected to be in place by June 30.
