Better Luck Next Year: Beer, Wine Bills Die in Committee

JACKSON, MISS– Bills that would have made alcohol sales a little more convenient won’t be made into law this year.

Two bills died in committee–meaning they won’t be going to the House and Senate floors to be discussed and made law this year.

The first bill would have allowed for breweries to sell beer onsite, and not just distribute to stores.

The second bill would have allowed your local grocery store to have a nicer wine selection. Rep Jeff Smith said “I gave my word and this bill isn’t coming up. If you have a problem, see me!”

Many had voiced their concerns against the bill prior to it coming up today, saying that if it passed, wine sales in grocery stores could kill wine stores through the state.
