Blacked Out, Washed Out Game Didn’t Stop South Panola From Taking 6A Title

STARKVILLE, Miss– The class 6A championship game was set to be at Mississippi State’s stadium Friday, but a blunder of circumstances pushed the game to Sunday.

The football kids at South Panola and Oak Grove  worked all season long– they’ve practiced hard and kept the gridiron hot, with their eyes on the ball for the title of MHSAA Class 6A Champs. Unfortunately, they couldn’t see that ball just after the first quarter Friday night at Davis Wade Stadium, thank to a blackout from a blown transformer.

Parents and patrons sat in the stands in the dark and rain for nearly an hour, but by the time power was restored, heavy rain and lightening moved into the area, postponing game play until Sunday.

When the teams finally kicked off Sunday, it wa an up and down game from the get-go, but South Panola quenched the title in a close overtime battle, claiming victory over Oak Grove 27-21.
