Blue Bell announces cookie dough product recall

JACKSON, Miss.- Blue Bell is recalling all Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blue Bell Cookie Two Step ice cream flavors.

The recall comes after Aspen Hills, the cookie dough provider, informed Blue Bell that some of their cookie dough product was potentially compromised with Listeriosis.

Listeriosis is food poisoning that is caused by eating food with listeria monocytogenes bacteria. It can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, the frail or elderly, or anyone with a weak immune system.

Others may suffer from fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Women who are pregnant are also at risk of a miscarriage and stillbirth.

This is the second recall for listeria in two months. The first came in September.

Blue Bell is instructing that anyone who has bought the two listed products return them to the place of purchase immediately for a full refund.

The flavors were distributed to the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
