Two charged after body found in Vancleave woods

Update:

Through the investigation, the subject was identified and information led investigators to an address in the 200 Block of Couevas St. in Biloxi. They learned the victim died at that address, and his body was transported to the location in Vancleave. Results of an autopsy revealed the subject died as a result of natural causes. The victim’s vehicle had been removed from the address and was found in Ocean Springs. 

Investigators with the Biloxi Police Department arrested 60 year-old John William Carrick, of Biloxi, and 45 year-old Jeffrey Tyler Witt, of Ocean Springs, on warrants for tampering with physical evidence. Witt was additionally charged with felony motor vehicle taking.

Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set Witt’s bond at $75,000 and Carrick’s bond at $5,000. They were transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Jackson County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to identify a body that was found yesterday morning.

Chief Deputy Sheriff John Ledbetter says shortly before 8:00 a.m., a county maintenance employee found the body in the woods about 50 yards from Seaman Road in Vancleave. The chief says the body is that of a man and it appears to have been in the woods several days.
