October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and on Saturday thousands will gather at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson to unite with the same goal, creating a world free from the pain and suffering caused by breast cancer.

The walk will be filled with survivors, caregivers, volunteers, and corporate community members. This is the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk.

The walk begins at 9:00 a.m. but registration opens up at 8:00 a.m., rain or shine.

Since 1993 more than 12 million Making Strides Against Breast Cancer participants have helped to raise more than $750 million to help relieve those affected by cancer. These walks happen in nearly 300 communities nationwide every year.

The money raised goes to the American Cancer Society to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.

Another Making Strides walk was held on the Gulf Coast last weekend with an opening ceremony featuring survivor speaker. The race kicked off at 9:00 a.m. at the IP Casino Resort Spa.
