Candidate Says Will Work for Free if Elected Biloxi Mayor

BILOXI, Miss.- Biloxi mayor candidate, Cono Caranna publicly announced that he will serve as mayor without pay, if elected.

Caranna said Tuesday, “public service is about service.” Caranna has served as Harrison County district attorney for 26 years.

The Sun Herald reports, the Biloxi City Council last week asked if the mayor’s $115,000 annual salary could be lowered to help city finances.

Other candidates in the April 28 special election are Andrew Gilich, Councilman Felix Gines, Councilwoman Dixie Newman and Harrison County Supervisor Windy Swetman. Councilman Paul Tisdale plans to announce his candidacy Thursday.
