Canton man receives long sentence after vicious beating

MADISON COUNTY, Miss.- Xavier Collins Johnson was sentenced to 95 years in prison for beating an elderly man nearly to death.

He was found guilty of the crime in 2014 by a Madison County jury. Johnson was charged with burglary of a dwelling, aggravated assault of a 75-year old Madison County man and conspiracy to commit credit card fraud.

Canton police responded to a 911 call from the mans wife to their home. She had discovered him on the ground in their driveway. He was unconscious due to the beating. The victim was then taken to UMMC where he was treated and remained in the hospital for 3 months.

During investigations by the Canton Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department they discovered that Johnson was responsible for the assault and that he had robbed the man.

He was soon arrested and law enforcement found his shoes that they believe he was wearing at the time of the assault, reports WLBT.

Johnson had a prior record of three counts of receiving stolen property in 2011 and was on probation when he committed this crime.
