Child dies in Gulfport after car-van crash

GULFPORT, Miss.- The Harrison County Coroner confirmed an 8-year-old boy died after a crash in Gulfport involving a van full of children and a car.

On Saturday night, a van carrying five children, including 8-year-old Jayden Tyson, turned in front of a car which caused a collision where the van spun and overturned.

According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, when law enforcement arrived several people were injured and were sent to Garden Park Medical Center. Tyson was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The coroner said the mother of the children was driving and no one in the van was wearing a seat-belt or child restraint including the driver.

The driver was issued citations for no driver’s license, running a red light, no proof of insurance, seat belt violations, child restraint violations, possession of marijuana and DUI.
