Chiquita Banana is Leaving Miss., Taking Jobs to New Orleans.

GULFPORT, Miss. – After nearly four decades, Chiquita Banana announced Wednesday that they are moving shipping operations from the Port of Gulfport to New Orleans. The move will result in a loss of jobs for 80 longshoremen and another 100 jobs will be effected by the move.

Chiquita was offered $5 million in incentives by Louisiana. The company also claims shallow shipping channels in the Mississippi Sound and expanded vessel capacity helped prompt the move.

Chiquita is expected to be completely moved by early 2015.
