It wasn’t a great weekend in football for Mississippi Universities, with losses across the board at Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss.

This weekend Ole Miss took on the Alabama Tide in Tuscaloosa with a major loss of 66 to 3. Coach Matt Luke told the University sports reporters that Alabama beat them soundly in three phases. He said the Rebs just couldn’t stay on the field.

Points were put on the board by Bo Scarbrough with a six-yard touchdown rush. Less than a minute later Levi Wallace made it 14-0 after he returned a pass to Shea Patterson for a 35 yard touchdown.  Alabama hit 31 points before the second half of the game.

Mississippi State took on the Auburn Tigers in Alabama, bringing home a loss of 49 to 10. Auburn initially took the lead, 21-3, with the Bulldogs only points coming from a field goal kick by Jace Christmann. State tried to get back in the game later on when sophomore quarterback Nick Fitzgerald threw to Justin Johnson for a six-yard score.

The Bulldogs are off next week.

Southern Miss went head to head with North Texas, suffering a loss of 43-28. They got into the game early with a two touchdown lead, but where buried by the Mean Green of NT.

Coach Jay Hopson said it was a hard loss and that the team played well up until the end of the first half. The Golden Eagles couldn’t pull out a win, scoring no points in the final quarter.
