Columbia Strong: Coming Back Stronger

COLUMBIA, Miss.- When an EF3 tornado ripped through Marion county on December 23, 2014, the lives of Columbia residents were changed forever.

Lives were taken. Homes were destroyed. Families were ripped from each other’s grasp. But, as with every disaster, the opportunity comes to rise from the ashes. Columbia Strong is an organization that was established to rebuild and restore the city of Columbia, and in a little over a two-month span, that restoration has begun. The first of about 30 projects was completed last week.

“We’ve seen an overwhelming turnout of volunteers, even well after the storm. People are still interested in helping, still interested in giving. We’re still seeing a lot of money come in from all the different organizations” from Columbia Strong Volunteer Coordinator Nik Ingram.

Columbia Strong is partnering with Christian Aid Ministries and Mennonite Disaster services on the projects.
