The Copiah County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspects in a carjacking case that occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of Old Hwy 27 #1 and Barnes Road.

According to officers, a black male in a Chevy Tahoe blocked a female driver in a white Escalade and got out of the car with a gun drawn. The victim ended up outside of her vehicle and gunfire was exchanged.

The female victim was shot in the leg but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The male suspect fled the scene in the victim’s Escalade, but the vehicle was recovered in Jackson on Tuesday. The suspect also took the victim’s .38 revolver, which is still missing.

An officer with the sheriff’s office said there may be more than one suspect.

Anyone with information on the shooting should contact the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
