Daughter who kept Cashing Dead Mom’s Checks, Gets Jail Time

GULFPORT, Miss. – A Picayune woman was sentenced Thursday to nearly two years in federal prison for stealing more than $75,000 in Social Security benefits that was sent to her mother.

But eventually the scheme was uncovered after it was learned the older woman was dead. Virginia Edelman was found guilty in May.  


Edelman must also repay the money and perform 120 hours of community service.
