Deadly Mississippi Roads: Three Die After Weekend Collisions With Trees

LAUREL, Miss.–At least three people lost their lives in wrecks that involved hitting trees over the weekend. In one wreck, a 23-year-old woman was killed near Laurel, and in another, two teenagers died in north Mississippi.

Police are still looking into what caused the driver of a Honda Civic to swerve off the road in north Laurel about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. The passenger, Kayla Miller, 23, was killed when the car hit a tree.

The driver lived, but was in critical condition. There were two back seat passengers who were hurt, but not as bad.

In Tippah County, about three hours earlier at 12:30, Diana Johnson, 19, and Chris Blackmon, 18, both died when their car hit a tree on a rural road.

The sheriff’s department reported that both were wearing their seatbelts.
