Deadly Weekend: Shootings in Mississippi, At Least Two Dead

HATTIESBURG, Miss.–It was before anyone got up for church Sunday that Matthew Campbell died in Hattiesburg. Police said he was shot at a local apartment complex and died at the hospital. Another person was hurt in the same shooting.

Cops got the call about 4:30 when the hurt man was brought in to Forrect General. That’s when they went to the apartments and found Campbell, shot in the head.

There had been no arrests as of Sunday night.

And if you were near the Vowell’s Market in Meridian, shopping for your after church meal about 1 p.m. Sunday, you probably saw all the blue lights when a man was shot and killed in front of the grocery store.

Det. Dareall Thompson, with Meridian Police, told media the victim was taken from the parking lot to the hospital, where he died.

No one was arrested, but police had a person of interest.

Another shooting was also reported in Meridian, where a woman shot a man at an apartment complex Sunday, reported WTOK. The man was in the hospital. Police were questioning the woman.
