Defense in Mississippi flag case gets deadline extension

The U.S. Supreme Court will allow the state of Mississippi a little more time to respond to a federal lawsuit naming the state flag an “unconstitutional relic of slavery.”

Lawyers for Governor Phil Bryant have until October 18 to prepare a defense for the banner.

Mississippi attorney Carlos Moore won appeal with the Court, even after a federal judge ruled against a previous challenge to the confederate symbol used on the state flag since 1894.

The original defense deadline was this Thursday.

News Mississippi will have more information as it becomes available.
