Detecting Signs of Child Abuse, What to Do? (AUDIO)

JACKSON, Miss. – If you suspect child abuse is going on, you need to report it. Last year, over 2,000 kids were brought into Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Centers (MSCAC) as part of abuse investigations. According to the Mississippi Department of Human Services there were over 8,000 evidence based cases of child abuse in Mississippi alone.

According to Brandy Rae, Clinical Coordination for the MSCAC, some signs you can look for if you expect child abuse include: physical signs of bruising, wearing long sleeve shirts in the summer, poor hygiene, behavior changes, becoming withdrawn, and major changes in emotional or behavioral actions.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

If you suspect child abuse, call Mississippi’s hotline at 1-800-222-8000.
