Disturbance Call Uncovers Cockfighting Operation and Meth

UNION COUNTY, Miss.–A disturbance call over the weekend lead authorities in north Mississippi to finding a cockfighting operation.

The Union County Sheriff’s Department was called to Mario Gonzales’ house according to WTVA  and he was already under investigation for illegal drugs.

While looking for drugs in a chicken coop after being tipped off to their possible location, the report says they found Oscar Rodriguez hiding there and he assaulted a police officer before fleeing.

Rodriguez was later arrested but wasn’t the only thing they found there.

Deputies seized cocaine, marijuana, and crystal meth at the house and later on found items that are usually associated with cockfighting.

Gonzales now has animal cruelty that has been added to his drug charges, but in Mississippi the cruelty charge is only a misdemeanor.

In total according to WTVA there were 20 roosters and 15 hens taken from the property.
