Doctor trading prescriptions for escort services

GULFPORT, Miss. – An Ocean Springs physician has been charged with illegally trading prescriptions for escort services. 

Dr. Michael Loebenberg has been charged on one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled drugs. His charges came from a federal court on Thursday in Gulfport. He was discovered giving the drugs away for escorts, and was later found selling them for money to an undercover agent.

Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Lt. Mary Flinchum confirmed that the criminal charges were investigated by officers on three separate occasions in January, April, and June. On each occasion,Loebenberg wrote illegal prescriptions for hydrocodone and other drugs in exchange for the escort services. The total cost of the drugs was around $440.

He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
