Domestic Violence Not Added as Grounds for Divorce

JACKSON, MISS– A bill that would add domestic violence as grounds for divorce died in the Senate.

Impotency, habitual drinking, mental illness that can’t be cured, and cheating are among a few of the reasons on the law books that can be considered grounds for divorce.

The House passed SB 2418 that would grant domestic violence as a reason for divorce, but the bill later died in the senate.

With the session over, the bill cannot be brought up again until next year.
