HATTIESBURG, Miss.–Just who the next mayor of Hattiesburg will be, well, it was still close and undecided by bedtime Tuesday. Counting of absentee ballots will make it final and that was set to start at 9 Wednesday morning.
Republican challenger Dave Ware was ahead by 32 votes when all the boxes were counted Tuesday. Incumbent Mayor Johnny Dupree was confident he could still pull off the win with the absentee votes.
In the general election, the difference was 37 votes.
