Election Numbers Roll In: Primary Election Night Coverage

JACKSON, MISS– The polls have closed. News Mississippi is updating you on the numbers as they develop.

Donald Trump takes the Republican win, and Hillary Clinton takes the democratic win. Mississippi is a winner-take-all-state. If a candidate gets more than 50% of the vote for their party, they get all of the delegates for that party.

The Fox News exit polls show that those self-labeled as “Very conservative” were 45% for Ted Cruz, with Trump on his heels at 40%. But those who label as “evangelical Christians” were 42% sided with Trump, with Cruz just slightly behind at 40%.

On the congressional end, Gregg Harper moves on to the republican ballot for the district 3 congressional seat in D.C. over Jimmy Giles. First term U.S. rep Trent Kelly wins the Republican primary in Mississippi’s 1st district.
