Escape Impossible for Two Men Who Died in Lincoln County Fire

LINCOLN COUNTY, Miss.–A fire that killed two men in rural Lincoln County early Thursday is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, but it appears the fire may have started in the kitchen. The two men who lived in the house could not escape.

Charles Keith Smith, 55, and Clayton Lewis, 47, were ID’d by Coroner Clay McMorris, who said the two were father and step-son.

The 911 call came in about 2 a.m. Even though the men called they couldn’t get out.

WLBT reported that family members said the fire started in the vent-a-hood.
