Ex-Deputy Charge with Unnecessary Use of Deadly Force

BOLIVAR COUNTY, Miss. – A former Bolivar County Sheriff’s Deputy has been indicted for manslaughter in the shooting death of a suspect he was trying to arrest.

The grand jury indictment claims Walter Grant didn’t have to use a head shot to take the man down.  Grant was picked up Thursday by agents with the Attorney General’s Public Integrity Division, which began investigating the case after the Bolivar County DA office recused itself.

If convicted, Grant faces up to 20 years in prison.
