Family Found Living in U-Haul Truck

MCCOMB, Miss.- Tough times call for desperate measures. A family was found living inside a rental truck. The couple was arrested after police found the couple, their two children and the kid’s grandmother living in the overdue rental truck.

The rental company reported the truck stolen because they were nearly two months overdue on payments.

Detective Shannon Sullivan told the Enterprise-Journal that Darnell Varnado, 28, and Shantay Varnado 29, both of McComb, were arrested on one count each of possessing stolen property.

They are being held at the Pike County Jail. Shantay Varnado’s bond was set at $10,000 and Darnell Varnado is being held without bond.

Police said the state Department of Human Services found a temporary residence for the children and the grandmother after the Varnados were arrested Monday. DHS is currently working with the police to figure out a housing arrangement for the family and a way to help them.
