Finding Myra Lewis: Sheriff: We’re Gonna Follow Every Lead

CAMDEN, Miss.–Myra Lewis is still missing one week and two days after she was last seen by her family. At a press conference Sunday, Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said his department was looking at new strategies in the search.

Tucker didn’t say exactly what those strategies were, but he did acknowledge that an SUV was taken from the family’s Camden home over the weekend.

“I’m sure you guys hear the speculation on the street,” he said. “One of the scenarios was that Myra had possibly been run over by that vehicle. It will be tested by technicians for the presence of anything. If not, it’ll be returned. But, it’s just another lead that we’re following up on.”

Tucker said he pledged to follow every lead that has come into his office.

Meanwhile the arrest of Myra Lewis’ mom Ericka has had some people upset. But, Tucker said he had no choice in the matter. Lewis has a felony conviction for welfare fraud last year, and guns were in plain sight when deputies searched the house.

“It’s unfortunate, the timing of it. But, she is not charged with anything related to the child at this point.”

He said that as a condition of her release, as with any felon, she agreed not to possess any firearms.

As for where police are going next with the search, it is likely to stay concentrated in the community.

“We feel confident that Myra’s still in this area.”
