Flooding Means More Highway Closures in Mississippi

MENDENHALL, Miss.–Flooding is causing some road and highway closures that could mean some major delays for you. MDOT and the Miss. Highway Patrol said Tuesday morning that taking the alternate routes they are suggesting will save you some time.

This is a press release from MHP:

Highway 49 near Highway 13 in Simpson County is closed due to flooding. This situation is expected will remain throughout the day Tuesday. Anyone traveling Highway 49 should seek alternative routes or face being stranded on Highway 49 until the flooding recedes.

Northbound alternative routes include: Highway 18 to Highway 541 back to Highway 49 and Highway 469 to Highway 28 to Highway 49. Southbound alternatives: Highway 49 to Highway 541 to Highway 18 and Highway 49 to Highway 18 to Highway 541.

Additionally, Highway 13 three miles north of Mendenhall is closed due to flooding.

MDOT also said Hwy. 80 at the Chunky River in Newton County was closed Tuesday morning.
