Former Cafeteria Worker Gets Time in Jail

Hattiesburg, Miss–Stealing food from the state is why a former cafeteria manager of the Youth ChalleNGe Academy at Camp Shelby is going to prison.

State auditor Stacey Pickering says Jerry Howard was sentenced to eight years to serve and two years suspended, for taking food paid for by the National Guard that never made it to the menus. That’s grand larceny.

The food that was paid for was intended to go towards the Youth Challenge program. An investigation began because food costs went up, even though the attendance to the program stayed the same.
