Former Leflour County Supervisor indicted for assault

GREENWOOD, Miss.- Larry Johnson, a former County Supervisor and teacher at Quitman County Middle School, was indicted on simple assault on a vulnerable person.

Witnesses say Johnson beat a special needs fifth-grader twice in February of 2015. One time it happened in a dark classroom and the other was in a trailer on the school’s campus. The witnesses say that he hit the child with a belt.

Johnson entered a plea of not guilty after waiving a formal arraignment last week.

He previously served two nonconsecutive terms as District 5 supervisor.
