Former Ole Miss Basketball Coach Dies in Plane Crash

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois- Former Ole Miss assistant Torrey Ward was one of seven that were on board the small plane went it went down Monday night. Ward was currently serving as assistant head coach at Illinois State, and they were heading back from the National Championship game in Indianapolis. The Cessna 414 aircraft went down about 5 miles away from Illinois State’s campus. ISU Deputy Athletic Director Aaron Leetch was also on board the plane. There were no survivors in the crash.

Ward, 36, joined Andy Kennedy’s staff at Ole Miss in ’06, and coached there for five seasons before moving to Illinois State in 2012. He played his college ball at UAB from ’96-00, and then professionally in China alongside Yao Ming.
