HATTIESBURG, Miss.–Apparently gang activity has gotten pretty dangerous in some parts of Hattiesburg. Police there have charged eight people with the murder of 39-year-old Nathaniel Alexander. More names may be added to the list.

Alexander was found Saturday night on the street after he had been shot several times. Police said it was a drive-by. And they said it looks like a gang of people were involved. In a news release Wednesday, cops listed the eight people they’ve rounded up so far, and their charges:

Brandon McNair, 27, is charged with murder and street gang activity, bond set at $1 million for murder, and $50,000 for gang activity.

Alice Poole, 19, is charged with hindering prosecution, rendering criminal assistance, $10,000 bond.

Micahel May, 20, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Anthony Crosby, 22, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Jamarcus Pettigrew, 23, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Ladayle Strickland, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity,$100,000 bond set.

Kadarius Nichols, 19, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

William Myers, 38, is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and street gang activity, $100,000 bond set.

Cedrick Smith is still wanted.

If you can help police with thi9s investigation, call  Hattiesburg PD or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.

WDAM reported that at the city council meeting earlier this week residents came to talk with police about gang activity and crime in their neighborhoods. Many believe crime is down in Hattiesburg and that police are doing their job well. For others, gang activity is too common and keeps them scared.
