Trying to Hire His Wife Killed: Newton County Man Gets 20 Years

NEWTON COUNTY, Miss.–It’s twenty years in prison for John Thomas Roberts of Newton County after he was convicted of trying to have his wife and her two children killed last year. He tried to put a hit out on them last year while he was already in jail on other charges.

MBI investigators visited him in December 2013, in his cell, when they learned about the possible hit.

Monday Roberts was given a 20-year sentence for the attempted capital murder charges.

Wednesday he was given another 20 years, which he will serve at the same time, for domestic aggravated assault.
