Gas Under $3 is Here: Mississippi’s State-Wide Average Dips This Weekend, But Cuts Could be Over

WAVELAND, Miss.–The lowest you’ll find gas in Mississippi right now is in Waveland, with the Exxon and Murphy stations there both selling it for $2.80, and in Bay St. Louis you can get it for $2.80 at the Shell and the CITGO.

This weekend Mississippi’s state-wide average dropped below $3 per gallon, joining several other states where the price was already that low.

AAA Spokesperson Don Redmon told News Mississippi three weeks back that it wouls likely be at below $3 at some point by year’s end.

The national average was at $3.22.

But, oil expert Trilby Lundberg, surprised by the price levels, said she believes it could go back up again.

“Another round of drops in the crude oil market could cause prices to go down lower, but right now it appears that the end of price cutting at the pump could be near,” she said.

Lundberg did not elaborate, except to say that she believes crude oil prices will be stable enough to stop any more giant drops.

The state’s most expensive has was still in Amory where the Soco was selling it for $3.59 per gallon.
