Governor Appoints New D.A. for First Circuit Court District

TUPELO, Miss.- After the election of Trent Kelly to the first congressional district, Governor Bryant has appointed John Weddle to take his place. The announcement was made Friday afternoon in a press release.

Kelly was voted into his new job after the death of Alan Nunnelee, who died earlier this year.

Weddle will serve Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties. He had served as the assistant D.A. for over three years and was in charge of the special victims unit, overseeing cases that involved women and children.

Before that, he was a  municipal court judge in Tupelo for nine years going all the way back to 2002, and a Lee County public defender from 1998 to 2002.
