Update: Authorities have identified the shooting victim as 27-year-old Kendrall Tate.
State authorities are looking into an officer-involved shooting that happened on the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation reports that officers with the Gulfport Police Department responded to a call near at William Bell Apartments regarding a stabbing.
Upon arrival, an altercation is said to have occurred between an officer and the subject on scene. During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon striking the subject.
The unidentified subject was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The officer did not sustain any serious physical injuries at the scene of the incident.
Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
