Grand Jury says Teenager won’t go to Trial for Wildlife Officer’s Death

FULTON, Miss. – A Fulton teenager will not face criminal charges in the May 9 death of a Mississippi Wildlife, Fishers and Parks officer.

An Itawamba County Grand jury has cleared Charles “Cody” Weaver, 19, and ruled the death of Master Sergeant John Collums an accident.

Collums, a 15-year-veteran, was standing on John Rankin Highway helping deputies investigate a report of a suspicious person, when he was struck and killed by a car driven by Weaver.  Weaver had initially been charged with negligent homicide.
