Alex Coker with the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that 70-year old Wayne House and his 43-year old son, Richard, died as a result of a gyrocopter crash on Saturday.
While the cause of the crash has not been determined; reports say that it occurred when the two-seater copter was coming in for a landing; as the crash occurred close to a private airstrip.
A gyrocopter can be described as a mix between a helicopter and an airplane. The aircraft uses a spinning blade to provide lift, while a propeller engine provides thrust.
Coker stated that the investigation has been turned over to the FAA as they attempt to figure out the cause of the fatal crash.
