Hearing scheduled for man accused of killing Durant nuns

DURANT, Miss.- Rodney Earl Sanders, 46, is scheduled to face a judge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday in the Durant Municipal Court for the murders of two nuns in the small town.

Sister Margaret Held and Sister Paula Merrill were found stabbed to death in their home on Thursday.

“Sanders was developed as a person of interest early on in the investigation,” said MBI Director Lt. Colonel Jimmy Jordan. “With the cooperation of the Durant and Kosciusko Police Departments, Holmes County Sheriff’s Department and the Attorney General Office this heinous crime has been resolved.”

He is being charged with two counts of Capitol murder. Police have not released a motive for the crimes and Sanders is being held in an undisclosed location.
