High School Football Championships Move to Starkville and Oxford, other MHSAA Changes

JACKSON, Miss. — If your high school student earns a spot on one of Mississippi’s top teams, know that big changes are coming this upcoming year.The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MSHAA) announced Monday that for the first time since 1992 the High School football championships will not be held at Jackson’s Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville will host the games in 2014 and 2016 and Vaught Hemingway Stadium in Oxford will host the games in 2015 and 2017.

Southern Miss will host the Mississippi Alabama Football Classic in 2015, which will mark the first time the game has been held in Mississippi in 27 years.

The state boys and girls’ basketball championships will now be 84 games instead of 36, and the boys’ quarterfinals games will be held at Jackson State.

The state swimming championships will be moved from Delta State to the new tupelo aquatic center which opened up last year.
