The biggest drug bust in Pelahatchie history has netted 1.4 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. Such an amount is estimated to have a street value of at least $100,000.
The meth, along with prescription pain pills and marijuana were seized Sunday after officers searched the home of Moses Jerome McLaurin, at 104 Lady Catherine Road. The search was authorized after a warrant was issued.
Pelahatchie Police Chief Kevin Pool said the bust took time and resources before it could be executed.
“This has been an ongoing investigation for a little while. A period of at least a few months, anyway.”
Poole added that the uncovering of such a large amount of narcotics is worrisome in a town with a little more than 1,300 people.
“The problem we have this is this is narcotics that was fixing to get distributed on our streets and in our community, and the negative effects of this was going to be felt for months, if not years to come,” said Poole. “This amount of quantity was probably enough to provide enough narcotics for our population two or three times over.”
McLaurin along with his accomplice Tori Jade Franklin have been charged with possession with intent to distribute. Franklin does not have a criminal record while McLaurin has a previous criminal record related to drugs.
