Hit and Run in Hancock County, One Dead

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss.-Tuesday night a hit and run occurred on I-10 at the Pearl River near the Louisiana border.

Wednesday morning authorities pulled a mans body from the river where the 18-wheeler he was driving went off of the bridge and was partially submerged in the Pearl River.

Another 18-wheeler was involved in the accidents but no individuals suffered major injuries. Police are looking for a black pick up truck that they believe may have been involved in the incident.

WLOX reports the accident happened near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line. Traffic was stopped for hours but now the right lane of westbound Interstate 10 is now open. All eastbound lanes opened around 7am.

Authorities say it could take days before they are able to pull the truck out of the water.
