Holiday Driving in Miss.: At Least One Dead, Several Injured in Big Wrecks

WILKINSON COUNTY, Miss.–Holiday travel in Mississippi may have been lighter than normal, but at least two big wrecks left one man dead and nine others in the hospital. One man was taken to jail.

The deadly wreck was in Wilkinson County, according to MHP Trooper Lt. Johnny Poulos. He said 26-year-old Travis Bolden of Woodville was killed Saturday when he lost control of his 2008 Landrover in Wilkinson County, left the road and rolled over.

Bolden was thrown out and died at the scene.

Another Saturday wreck involving two trucks and a car in rural Oktibbeha County, sent eight people to the hospital, some with serious injuries.

The trucks both flipped over and details about the wreck were sketchy. The sheriff’s dept. there was investigating. The driver of one of the vehicles, Dana Roberson, of Starkville, was charged with DUI and leaving the scene.

A wreck Sunday morning may have left a Clinton man paralyzed from the waist down, according to the MHP, and it may have been because of drinking.

The 19-year-old was by himself and hit a tree near Raymond in the early morning hours.

In total 6, 682 citations were written of which 118 were DUI’s during the five-day stretch of Wednesday through Sunday at midnight.
