Insurance Rates Are Going Up

JASCKSON, Miss. — You may want to go ahead and get a flood insurance policy now if you live in a flood prone area.  Waiting could be costly.

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney says rates will jump 20% for new customers starting October 1.  Congress passed a law last year that allows the National Flood Insurance Program to raise premiums to help make up for deficits in the program.  Some lawmakers from coastal states are totally against the increase and are trying to get it delayed for at least a year.
