Is your car safe? Japanese automaker tops in safety rating

JACKSON, Miss. – After testing dozens of cars, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety says that 2017 automobiles are safer than ever before.

Eighty two vehicles tested received a top safety pick award by the IIHS.
“You don’t have to buy luxury to get safety, nearly every vehicle size and price class is represented,” IIHS President Adrian Lund said to NBC News.

Toyota received the most top safety picks with nine. Honda was a distant second with five models being represented.

This year, auto makers were rewarded for making automatic emergency braking systems standard, where in the past they were optional.
