The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office are assisting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in investigating an inmate hanging death in the adult detention center.

Sheriff Mike Ezell says a deputy found 35-year old Robert Gene Danley, Jr. hanging in his cell shortly after head count Friday, December 28th. The staff attempted CPR but were unsuccessful.

He stated that Danley was a trustee in the jail and was arrested on November 12th by Pascagoula Police on misdemeanor charges. He was also on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a prior conviction. The probation was revoked and Danley was awaiting transfer to a state prison.
