Jail Rioters Activate Alarms, But Short of Shanks or Any Other Weapons

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. – At least two inmates were hurt during what is being described as a riot at the Chickasaw County Correctional Facility Sunday night.

Guards say a fight started after 10 p.m. and involved at least 30 inmates in one of the  living areas.

Warden Brand Huffman said at the time of the fight only about five guards were on duty, so officers were called in from Okolona, Houston and Vardaman Police Departments as back-up.  The two inmates who were hurt were taken to the hospital. All the guards are safe with no injuries.  Surprisingly, Huffman also said no weapons or shanks were used.
