WEST POINT, Miss. – Members of a church plan to gather Monday morning to pray for the man beaten during an alleged racially motivated attack last
month at a Huddle House in West Point.
Ralph Weems, who is white, suffered brain damage and remains in the hospital. David Knighten, who was with Weems, said the conflict initially started at a Waffle House, where they had been warned that people inside were upset about Michael Brown’s killing in Ferguson, Missouri. After police ordered them to leave , he said they were again approached, and eventually beaten, by the same men at the Huddle House.
The alleged attackers, both African American men, are not from West Point. Courtez McMillian and Marquavious McMillian are facing aggravated assault charges.
The prayer service for Weems will be held at First Baptist church at 10 a.m.
